Monitor
Monitor (2022) is a visual art thesis project that uses photography to examine how notions of gender are perceived within the photographic frame because when female bodies are represented in an increasingly digital and patriarchal society, they can lose their subjectivity very quickly. By using fabric to conceal individuality of the models in the images, I can further isolate the familiar gestures taken from historical modes of representation that present women as objects to be looked at. Through making this work about the male gaze, I can understand how my own body fits into contradicting ideas of self-empowerment online.
